Took the leap
Just ordered the sight unseen set from whipped dog, along with a brush and some soap. Really looking forward to my first shave. Fortunately I am married to an RN, so she should be able to stop the blood from getting to bad.
Will post back when the goodies arrive.

Thanked: 993Good to hear. Good luck with that first shave. Do some reading on your angles and pressure, if you haven't already.
Then its all you....(except for the parts where you ask for help....we'll do our best!).
Cheers,

Good luck with your new adventure ! Don't get your razor too close to the faucet , and read everything you can , before you put the blade to your face .

Just a quick followup. My stuff arrived from whipped dog. Everything was better than I expected. For any others wanting to get started, this is the way to go. I will attempt the first shave Saturday. Looking forward to it.

Don't expect too much from your first shave. The best you can hope for is survival and a determination to continue. Good shaves will come in your future if you
persist.

I went with the "sight unseen deal" as well, about a month ago and it was the best thing I could have done. I recommend it to anyone who is thinking about getting into straight shaving. It's a great deal.

Well, have done the deed. My first shaves with a straight were Saturday and Monday. Was able to do a pretty fair job on both cheeks and a little on the neck. Not BBS, but no blood lost, so no complaints. Have even discovered the zen of stropping.
I am planning to order a second razor very soon, just not sure what to get though. Having fun surfing the web looking. Even looking at scuttles. Will post back when I decide.

That is a much better start than most, including mine. BBS is an ultimate goal, and I don't even worry about it anymore. What you should be pursuing is a good shave, and with practice you will get there. Shaving is like an examination. It would be nice to get a 100% every time, but I'm perfectly happy with a decent result, maybe an 85% or a 90%, and I'm satisfied with a decent shave. It sounds like you are well on your way. Congratulations, and keep us informed.
