Thread: Feel like I'm cheating...

I used my trusty DE safety for the past two days. A concatenation of circumstances led to a quick and hasty shave using the DE instead of my beloved straights. And I have to say, using the DE is much easier and faster. Probably get a better shave overall. (Jagger DE with a Feather blade and Truefitt & Hill cream.) I feel...unfaithful.

But I will not give up on the straights! They are just too much fun to use to slope back to the familiar DE's. Back in the saddle tomorrow.

I cheated yesterday I used my De. It was a good and fast shave sometimes it just has to happen. I have a brand new custom BB in a box that SWMBO won't let me open until Tomorrow it's my Bithday !! I can barly sleep

I literally cannot cheat anymore. I don't have any blades for my DE and I used up my last disposable about a month after starting to use a straight.

It kinda forces me to make sure I'm up at the appropriate time so I have time to shave

I often only nick myself in the same place, i.e., the area around the mustache. It is the only part of my face that I can't pull on and tighten. So, sometimes I will just do as much as I can around the mouth with the straight, and then I'll finish off the residual small hairs with my DE. Or, I've taken lately to using a smaller razor (slightly less than 4/8) around the stash while using a 5/8 or slightly larger for the rest. Just a thought.

For some reason many guys will feel like they are somehow "cheating" if they use a DE - cheating on their straights, cheating on SRP, whatever. But many of us senior members use a DE every so often, if not weekly. Nothing wrong with switching it up though. Once you get your SR technique down it's nice to have some diversity for diversity's sake.

Now, using a disposable or cartridge - THAT'S cheating

I do the same thing. Circumstances arise where I need a quick and dirty shave and I grab my ancient Gillette open-comb with a Feather blade and get a darn decent shave and I'm out the door. Doesn't happen too often though...

Yea, I use a DE when I'm in a hurry or can't concentrate or when I'm in the mood.

Back on track with the Hart 7/8 today!
