    Default Bloodied

Well, after three, ever improving, shaves, I finally got my first nick...on my EARLOBE. Didn't even feel the touch, but there was the scarlet rivulet that told me of the deed. These things are tres sharp! The flippin' stypic (sic) pen hurt worse than the nick. Bled like a stuck pig for about two minutes, and since I didn't pass out from blood loss, I finished the shave. BTW, the cut might have been a sixteenth inch long, so no fencing scars....yet.

You aren't a real shaver until you've had the joy of standing there in awe, looking in the mirror, as your shoulder slowly turns red. Earlobes are only there as markers. They're like the white lines on the road. Cut 'em off!

    Hey Barry,

I did this very same thing just the other day (a cut just above the earlobe with a square-tip). Not to scare you, but you'll cut yourself again, so when you do, try dipping your styptic in warm or very warm water before you apply it. For me, whether warm or cold it stings, but when it's warm it actually stops the bleeding.

Others may argue cold water works better. In any event, you'll have plenty of chances to experiment.

I had been shaving for two years, with no earlobe nicks, and I thought I was passed that point. Three weeks ago I had my 6/8 Favorite bite my left one. Apparently I'm not out of the woods yet.

Also, I forgot to note, it's best to roll it on. At first I took the concept of pencil a little too seriously. I probably should have read the instructions; that's probably in there somewhere.

    1. Always take care that you are not moving the blade like a knife (like when you cut meat), even a little bit.
    2. Always watch the tip when shaving with a spike point. I learned that the first time I cut myself.
    3. Always look at the blade when you go to wipe / rinse it off. I once jabbed my thumb into my razor while reaching for the faucet knob and looking in the mirror.
    4. Don't get too close to the mirror! You'll bump the razor on the mirror and push it into your face!

I've only cut myself those two times. Both times I just wasn't paying attention.
This stuff really isn't that dangerous. Treat it like safe driving: Don't drink, text, read or focus on things that aren't on the road.

I've nicked my ears once or twice, I guess it's the required blood offering to the SR g-ds to ensure future smooth shaves LOL

Shaved my head for the first time yesterday with a straight! Holy crap!!!! Yes even a tiny nick about the head will bleed like nobodies business! I ended up finishing the job with my Merkur 2000 and lots of septic stick! Lol

    BarryC,

Such nicks & cuts are part of the 'rite of passage' in the straight razor shaving world

Wear the 'dueling scars' with pride

    Apparently, 'chicks' dig scars !

    Have fun !

    Best regards

    Russ
