    Default having only 2 hands...

so.. where do you keep your razor when whipping up new lather and such? because obviously you can't just place it on the sink because it'll dull or chip?

I rinse, wipe, and close the razor. Then place it on my folded towel on the sink. Only then will I rinse the remnants of the lather from my first pass in order to fully wet my face again and then retrieve my brush from the scuttle to apply lather for the second pass. Same proceedure goes between second and third passes on those days when I'm looking for BBS.

    Just another data point,

I place it on top of my el-cheapo soap bowl's lid. That's the soap I use for initial beard prep (while I strop and before I rinse/lather up with some good stuff).

I make enough lather prior to the shave so that any reapplication needs only one hand (i.e. I hold my razor in the other hand while I re-lather my face). Just as a note, I never re-lather for the "against the grain" pass - just use warm water from the sink. Actually, these days I rarely do a second pass at all.

Well...I just place it on the sink.

BUT... I set it blade up, resting on its spine, open. And the surface around the sink is fairly nice and wide; I move the toothbrush clutter and such off to the windowsill before getting started.

I never relather after the initial lather. If you use a good soap you shouldn't have to. I find the one lather lasts way longer than I need. If I need to relather my face I hold the razor in my hand and brush with the other hand.

I re-lather after the first pass, but I do the third pass water only. There is a bit of soap left to provide lubrication.

Anyone tried having their wife/girlfriend stand by and hold it?

Whenever I have to set it down I simply semi close it ala Ilija's avatar and the million other photos of razors we see and put it on the sink counter top on its side with the tang facing me. When I have to pick it back up I approach it from the tang and grab it by the shank, then I use my off hand to open the scales again just like normal. No problems that way so far.

You might be on to something, ever see the movie "Coming to America"??

In addition to your royal bathers, and wipers, you could have royal shavers that stand around topless and hold your razor and apply your lather for you

Of course that could be a distraction and cause more cuts.
