Regarding Gold Dollars, I'm not sure how your seller fixes something that's junk.. See here...Frequently Asked Questions - Straight Razor Place Wiki

Well, he says he grinds down the spine so the blade will lie flat on the hone and he hones them to shave readiness. If it sucks no matter, it only cost me 30 bucks with shipping and I can use it to practice honing myself. I didn't buy it blind, I knew full well Gold Dollar's reputation from reading here and other forums. I still think it's worth the risk for the sake of 30 bucks and I'll have the Dovo anyway. Depending on where you read the steel in GD's isn't that bad, it's the quality control that sucks so if someone has addressed those issues why not?

Here's hoping you enjoy your Dovo. I picked up a Flowing 6/8 from SRD last week and love her though not nearly as much as the Lewis. Oh yeah...duh. Hopelessly affected by RAD only one month into wet shaving....

    Welcome!

I just bid on a third razor on ebay just because I liked the scales. RAD.

The steel is not a factor controlled by the factory however the heat treatment is & may still be influenced by poor QC. You might update us on the edge durability of both razors after a time.
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Blame Canada Post for your woes. Our postal service simply sucks, often taking twice as long as it should. Back in November when the SRP Thater brushes were shipped by Max in Las Vegas, members from the other side of the world were reporting that they got their brushes a couple weeks before mine arrived. And I'm talking about countries like Japan, Norway, Hungary etc. Our tax dollars at work, my friend

I can't speak highly enough about Classic Edge
    Two weeks ago I ordered a Dovo Master's 6/8.
It was indeed honed for me and actually "shave ready"
They even sent a hand written note to thank me for my purchase. A little touch of class!
I wish I had found them sooner! Good choice.

I know. They were pretty good for a few years but it seems the past 5 years or so they've really started to slip.

I was referring to the smiling/frowning, warped blades, misaligned scales and chunky heel in regards to QC. Good point on the tempering. I've read of several people who have them though and say they work just fine and will take and hold an edge. But like anything the next question is, compared to what? I'm sure the Dovo will be a better shaver.

I guess I just wanted to see for myself how bad/good they are. I've never been one to be snobby about something just because it's inexpensive. The most consistent paintball gun I've owned was the cheapest one. I had one that cost 6 times as much and it couldn't touch it. To make it that consistent I had to do some work (polish the innards, shorten trigger pull, replace the barrel, add a regulator ) but then I like to tinker. If it's junk then so be it, I'll use it to filet fish or something.
