Thanked: 0Introducing and seeking to purchase blade
Hello,
My name's Dakota. I've always been interested in straight razor shaving and now I'm ordering myself a brush, soap, and possibly a strop. But I'm going to get a razor from someone on here hopefully Once I look around and see what is offered. Anway hello. and I hope this works out.

Dakota,
Welcome to SRP. Glad to have you aboard.
You're making a wise choice in terms of your purchases. Of course you could purchase a razor and strop set from one of the online vendors who advertise here.
Of course, the SRP Classifieds are always a good place to purchase a straight razor. I've purchased several razors there myself.
There are other SRP members who may also have suggestions about where to get a reasonably priced starter straight razor or starter straight razor set.

Thanked: 0Hi my name is Mike, I'm in the same boat as Dakota. I read through these forums up and down, lots of great tips an guides in here. I googled "straight razor," clicked the first link (Straight Razor | Amazing Deals | StraightRazor.co), and I see some stuff in the $20 range... I'm curious if anyone has any insight regarding these types of razors? I'm on a budget and that cherry wood is looking pretty sexy I intend to hone my own razor, etc, so I don't mind if it comes dull.
Thanks to all for the great content on this site! Can't wait to start shaving like a man,
Mike

They have "damascus" blades for under $100. That's a huge red flag.

Welcome to SRP. Take a look through our Classifieds section for your first razor. Beware of cheap razors as they are mostly razor shaped knives or vintage razors past their prime. Look for vintage razors from Sheffield which may contain the 'England' stamp if made after 1891, Solingen Germany or Sweden. Mis-shaped razors or razors with lots of pitting and/or black staining may shave well but you should get a good blade for your first razor. There are a few online shops that sell new and shave ready/sharpen straight razors. Be sure the razor is shave ready and not just factory honed. Straight Razor Designs would be my first choice followed by Vintage Blades LLC and Classic Shaving. There are a lot of other choices that can supply straight razors but they are choices to consider only after you know what you are looking for. Learning to shave with a straight razor is challenging enough that you don't need to be using a sub par razor on top of it. Good luck, enjoy your jpurney into straight shaving and let us know if you have any questions.

Hey Mike, with all do respect, the cherry wood doesn't shave, the blade does, as the 'ol saying goes...you get what you pay for. There are great deals here in the classified section for quality proven razors, you might ( repeat ) might spend more money in the long run. none the less, welcome!
