    Default What Happened!!!

I've been wet shaving for the past year with the exception of a couple cold Chicago months. I always prep my beard with CF pre shave, and a hot towel from the microwave (showers make me sleepy). I first started with a Dovo Micarta, and AOS lavender cream. Beautiful razor, but I didn't like the big handle. I then purchased a Dovo Pearlex, and was having a little more success with it, but was still not getting very good shaves. So I decided to go vintage, and purchased a Puma #39 6/8. I was getting much better shaves, but not completely satisfied. Now I'm aware me being new could have a lot to do with the quality of shaves I'm getting, and I've watched endless videos on stropping, shaving, lather, etc.. My Dovo's were purchased from one of our vendors so sharpness is unquestioned. In my search for a better shave I bought Xpec cream, and again a little improvement. So I bought into the Filarmonica hype, and bought a C-mon double temple. So tonight I shaved with Filarmonica, and used the poraso pre shave I recently got. IT WAS THE BEST!!!! Still having a little bit of a hard time with my neck, but so much better. My long winded question is what happened? Would the Filly make that much of a difference? The poraso pre shave? And, what do I do with all these razors?

Boy, I don't have much experience with all those preshaves. I'm just posting because you asked what to do with all those razors. Savor them, every one. Backtrack through them as your skills improve and see if they're pretty good after all. I have one in my collection that just happened to be ergonomically perfect for me, and with it in hand my other skills got to develop a little better, and now any of my razors work just a little better than before.

Good luck and best wishes to you.

Just my 2cents, but I think you may have just been getting better with your lathering and shaving technique. 90% (Or more) of the time I notice when I revisit things down the road they just get better, be it soaps, creams, razors, blades, etc.

Definitely could be it's just strange, because I just shaved with Puma two days ago.

    Yes, Proraso is that good.
The Filly is also a plus.

My vote and experience tells me Proraso got you 80% of the improvement.
It lathers so easy that an ideal lather just happens and by reports
is not too sensitive to water hardness.

Other soaps and creams work as well for me but take a bit more work.

I have the Proraso green tea pre shave, and used it with Xpec cream (I'm starting to like the scent, and my wife loves it??). What a difference! Because I never shave after a shower I thought a pre shave would be a good idea, so I've been using the castle forbes, but l love the Proraso it felt great. I will definitely try the shaving cream.
