Starting an expedition
Howdy,
Boy I'm glad I found this place. Just wanted to ask a some more of the same questions everybody else asks. I've been doing re-enactments for 8 years now and was kinda interested in staring to shave, well, the period correct way. I've never really seen anybody else do it, but I thought to myself, hey why not give it a go. I just was curious on how I should get started. I'm only 20 and have somewhat of a limited budget so I can't start with the best of the best now. I do want to start though and just was wanting to get the basic gear, not cheap, but not expensive. thanks for all you guys help.

And I predict that within a week of
receiving your first razor you will
be dreaming of another and another.........
It is a very addictive hobby.

Only with the proper funding, but of course when it's an addiction, funds don't matter as much anymore.

The most important thing is too have
fun and enjoy what you have and not
worry about what you don't have.
I wish you luck in your search for
a razor.

Just hang on until he posts the new set that includes both a paddle strop and a hanging strop. On top of that he gives a free paddle strop pasting for SRP members and that's worth $15. In any case he'll help get you started in style without going over budget.

I'd also recommend buying Lynn's "World of Straight Razor Shaving" CD when starting out. You'll find it at the top of the Buy/Sell/Trade forum and it's one of the best sources of information out there for a beginner.
The Christopher Moss straight razor shaving guide is excellent too if you haven't seen it already:

Thanked: 1Just a clarification -
Tony's business is the "Well Shaved Gentleman" (a super guy), not "The Gentlemens Quarter" (that's Colleen - the soapmaker extraordinaire)
