Welcome aboard. You outlined a few great reasons to go straight. Here's a few more:
    1) You have full control over your razor's performance
    2) It becomes a hobby that's also a very important part of your daily life
    3) Frequency of blade-rinsing goes way down
It's good to hear that someone else is enjoying this lifestyle.

That was a great post. Thanks for sharing the experience.

I just wanted to mention to keep a healthy respect for that blade, though. I've been shaving on and off with straight razors for almost 10 years and today I gave myself the worst nick I have ever had.

I just found this forum the other day and discovered that diagram of the man's face with the areas and which direction to shave in. As I was shaving the left-side moustace area, I was thinking about this diagram and not paying attention. Now I have a 1/2" long gash there. Ouch. I bled like a stuck pig.

Bah, it's just skin. It'll heal!

Great post! and I totally agree with you on every part of your post. It's good to hear you're doing so well out of the gate. The great thing is how many guys can get so far along with this community, whether it's just pointing them in the right direction for starter kits as you have experienced and recommended, or getting advice on honing and blade sizes for additions to skill sets or collections. I love that.

Let me first say I agree that Lynn's DVD is an outstanding resource and should be mandatory viewing not only for newbees but all of us.

Second I will say that the wisdom you have concerning straight shaving is far advanced over the experience you have in using a straight. What that says to me is that you must have some good karma going for you. Keep up the good work.

Congratulations on a great start - you did it the right way, by doing your homework first.

Collecting more razors, or at least the urge to, is pretty much an inevitable part of all this. There are some guys here who haven't done that but I'd guess that most of us have more than a few of them. Do you have half a dozen or more shaving soaps and creams yet? I think I'm taking up more counter space in the bathroom than my wife is these days...........
