Thanked: 5couple of questions
1. What do you you mean by "undercutting the slurry and the water?'
2. You made a statement about using a Norton 8K with a slurry to start and then finish with water only and perform the same process of honing a razor? The 4k first would speed up this process?
3. when do you start using a strip of tape on a razor during the hone?
jswarb is sending me some razors to play with and one that is shave ready.

Thanked: 1091. the blade goes beneath the liquid on the stone. It makes it easier to see the blade has even contact.
2. The slurry usually makes a stone cut faster and somewhat courser than clear water. Start out course and fast as the stone will go dilute the slurry as you go until you reach clear water which should be as smooth as the stone will cut.
3. I start from the first stone. The only time I take the tape off when I am done. It keeps the spine from being worn down. One of the razors I sent you has had extensive spine wear from honing without tape.
It just keeps getting better.
