Picking up the honing gloves
Ah the time of the year, summer examinations the next two weeks and looking any open possibility to get away from studying.. I'm both a minimalist kinda guy and on a students budget, like to do things the oldfashioned but working-way, so I only have a Thuringian that I found for a fair price a while back for touching ups.
However I picked up the honing gloves yesterday and went for it. Obviously it gave me a struggle of approximately 2 hours to get anywhere near armhair cutting capabilities, then another half hour of finishing up and stropping. This morning I was ready to try my first ever selfproduced edge..
Actually it surprised the hell out of me, it was very, very sharp. Even sharper than some of my other straights! It was a very good shave, BSS and more rewarding because of the work performed on the edge. However it gave me alot of razor burn, while I hardly ever get any.. Where does this come from? Does this have to do with the smoothness of the edge?
