Ow do you get to the new razors on whippeddog? Or would you know if one of the blind deals are worth looking into?

Thanked: 20Hey Swerve-
I was in the same boat as you. I got the pakka wood razor from vintage straight razors. I'd just scrap that thing. It sucks, but once you get a real razor, you'll see what a razor should be like.
I'd say go to the classifieds here (up at the top of the site) and get a nice razor at a decent price from one of the members. Ruprazor.com has a nice strop that is very cheap, the filly. Getting a razor from the classifieds and getting the filly were the first two things I did when I realized I'd been had by GB Buckingham and sons. Trust me, you won't regret it. I'm only about 3 months into straight shaving, but it's a blast!

Thanked: 334I honestly do not know the answer to either of your questions, and I'm sorry about that. I've heard other members here say that the blind deals are usually OK, but I don't have any personal experience with them. That being said, whippeddog.com does enjoy a good reputation with SRP members.

All of the razors on whippeddog are vintage blades that have been cleaned up some and honed. They wont be a show piece but they are good razors. I think he currently only runs the site unseen deal. If you email larry over there he will be able to answer any questions you have and will help you out.
If you want new your going to have put down between 80 and up for it and you would look on sites like straight razor designs and classic shaving.

You can also look at this site http://www.gemstarcustoms.com/index.php/for-sale.html They have good deals sometimes and they are fully restored to look almost new. They are vintage razors though.

Thanked: 13245Vendors on SRP
Since it seems to be always left out of these threads I am going to personally make sure I keep pointing it out from this point forward every single time
Vendors on SRP don't advertise their wares in the Classifieds, they advertise right here in the "Vendors Corner"... I doubt you will find "Cheap" but you will find inexpensive, quality Straights Razors for sale at many of the Vendor websites.. There are many Strops, Soaps, Brushes, and Hones to be found there too
Vendors Corner
The Classifieds are also full of great deals on Straight Razors, (and everything else) from the membership here...

"Our leader" 5/8 - Straight Razor Place Classifieds looks pretty good to me, unfortunately somebody seems to have bought it already, but look for something like it. The razor has a bit of tarnish and pitting, which is purely cosmetic issue, but it has not been abused - there is almost no hone wear on it. It's the standard size, vintage steel, probably very well balanced, honed and tested, you have good photographs so you know exactly what you're getting and arrives at your door in few days all for $35 - I don't think you can find anything better.
If you read some of the other threads on this site and in particular in this section you'll find out what are the usual places to find shaving products. There are hundreds of popular brands and even more places to get them from, a lot depends on your budget. (E.g. the best deal for a basic boar brush that may fall apart in a week, or 6 months or a year is most likely your local grocery store, the best deal for a big and super dense badger brush with really soft tips is probably Thäter from straightrazordesigns, then you have a lot in between...)

All the information you have asked for, can be found by spending an hour or two in the "advanced" search area of our forum. Good & Great razors can be found in our "classified" section.
