Thanked: 0Upcoming First Straight Shave and a simple question.
So I have my first new straight razor on it's way. Everything I need to know is covered at SRP but one thing I don't seem to much comment on his how do you clean/rinse your blade between strokes. I have read of people damaging the blad on the tap and others who place a face cloth over the tap to prevent damage.
Do people rinse under the sink or use a towel? With my DE razor I simply rinse under the hot water which not only cleans it but keeps the blade warm.
Any comments from those with experience would be appreciated.

You will find as many methods for wiping the lather off as there are members. personally, I just rinse under hot water. I avoid wetting the pivot area and am careful enough I don't hit the razor in the sink or faucet. If you think you will have problems with sink strikes then just use a towel. In the old days barbers used either a towel or those neck tissues that seal the cape to the neck or used the cloth cape itself. Really whatever works for you. Just make sure the razor is 100% dry before putting it away.

I just use the hot water just as thebigspendur. Just be careful and pay attention, and most of all, take your time.

Thanked: 38Personally I rinse it in cold water, but be very careful with the towel, a small distraction and you could harm the bevel

Upcoming First Straight Shave and a simple question.
I wipe with my finger. Always find rinsing the blade or wiping with a towel to be too much trouble.
This way I don't have to worry about harming the blade or generating laundry.

Thanked: 40I rinse my razor under hot water from the faucet. I keep the blade pointing down to prevent any accidental knock. I agree with The Big Spender. Being careful is most important.

Yep, I just rinse mine under hot water too. With the toe end tilted down and the edge away from the tap. Keeps water out of the pivot and the edge away from harm.

I'm a rinser. I chipped a blade once, so now I'm more careful.

Re: Upcoming First Straight Shave and a simple question.
I wipe my blade on a moist face cloth. I do stropping strokes. If you dip your razor in water to rinse then just hang a cloth over the tap to prevent banging the razor.
