Thanked: 0How long have you been shaving with a straight? I have been using a straight for a little over a month and have started the process of learning to shave my head with it. The part that i get done before it gets too dull actually turns out quite smooth. I think the problem is that I have full hollow ground razors.
I just got a smallish wedge from an eBay auction and will be working it into shape on the hones and am looking forward to using it on my head.
Did you find it difficult to get the back of your head? How did you handle it...by feel or a double mirror set-up?
Congrats on the new slick head! I have been doing mine for over 4 years years now and wish that I had done it sooner.

Mike, a thing that may help even with the hollows is stropping once or twice in the middle of the head shave. Try it and see.

I shave for about a month now with straights. Like FiReSTaRT said: strop between passes. I just do it on feel and verify later with my hands and mirror to see if I missed anything and to stop the bledding of my mole there.
Just go slow and use it like a comb. I don't go against the grain, just with it in various directions per pass (I do about 2-3 passes and only the back of my head isn't BBS because of that damn mole that gets in the way which makes it harder to shave).

Thanked: 0Whats a comb?
Its been so long since I used a comb...I can't really remember how that all went...
I have been shaving my noggin for about 4 1/2 years now, and wouldn't go back to having to carry around a comb for anything.
Thanks for the advise guys, I will try stropping between passes. I just got a mini-wedge from an eBay auction (4/8...interesting piece) and will also be trying that out once I get is honed-up right (so dull now that I could lick along the edge and not get cut).
