Honing mentor in/around NoVA?
I joined the Virginians groups we have, but no response yet.So thought I'd give a shout out here too.
Was wondering if anyone lives around northern Virginia, who could possibly mentor me in honing, and maybe a few other things if you feel inspired. I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

I'd certainly be glad to (try to) answer some questions if you've got any, although there are a number of follks in the area who are pretty well versed. Moreso than I.

I don't think I have any questions at the moment really... Since I'm an artist/ visual person, I feel I just need to see someone do it in person.
Only thing I am not sure about is what stone to start with. I was also looking at a honing paddle, which seemed better for a beginner like me maybe.
Keep in mind, I haven't even gotten my first str8 shave yet. Still waiting on it in the mail. Then I gotta buy all my other stuff.
Thanks for reaching out. I appreciate it.

Thanked: 114Welcome to SRP! I don't consider myself a honing expert, per se, but I do successfully hone all my own razors. You are welcome to come by and play with my hones. PM me if interested. Alternatively, Alan Davis and I have hosted get togethers in the past (see here and here). Perhaps this post is just the right incentive for us to host another.

I'd also be happy to give you a hand, Dork. I live in Alexandria and work in Tysons, so Annandale is not too hard to dealwith... I've got both synthetic and natural stones and am always happy to help new guys learn!
