I keep mine on a hook on the outside of the bathroom door. Keeps it out of the bathroom and in a spot where no one will really mess with it, also have nice lighting for when I use it.

Thanked: 154I keep my razors and strop in my home office to protect anyone using the bathroom who might not understand the hazard a straight razor presents. I tied a short string lanyard to the strop's metal clip and tied a large knot on the free end. To use the strop it takes just a moment to remove it from the large waist-level drawer where it lays horizontally between uses and close the drawer on the string. The knot keeps the strop securely held in the drawer. This simple method has worked very well for years.

There is no door to our shower/bath/sinks, as it is an extension of our master bedroom. We have a good sized walk-in closet adjacent to the faucet/sink that I use, so I hang the strop on a small hook in the closet, on the opposite side of the sink.
Here's an idea. I'd like to clip my strop to the belt loop of my jeans, left side, and strop right there, then wrap the strop around my waist to use as my belt. That way, I'm always ready to strop, any time, anywhere.Last edited by IamSt8ght; 10-06-2012 at 03:19 PM.

Thanked: 13245I guess I am the Bad Boy of the forum
I get my razors soaking wet
I soak every stone regardless of the instructions
and
I have all the strops hanging in the Bathroom without a fan
I'll be honest my strops get nothing really special either, I put a dab of Fromm Strop dressing on the palm of my hand and rub the strops down "about" once a year...
The strops hang so I strop at a slight up angle, (doesn't really matter up or down but I like a slight angle rather than dead flat) in the Shave Den I have some really heavy duty hooks that I use for stropping... The strop I use for customers razors hangs behind the door in the Living Room off a 1 inch brass cup hook screwed into one of the logs.. I have learned over the years that a taut strop is what counts you don't need a death grip on there holding it tight

In my living room there is a television placed on a wooden cabinet. In that piece of furniture I put a nail to hang my strops on.
Perhaps one day humidity, or the lack of it, will spoil the strops. Haven't seen any signs of that yet.

Well... This is what I've come up with so far...
I picked up a 1/4"X6" Threaded Eye Bolt...
... Knocked it over about 45 degrees...
... Replaced my center hinge pin...
Now strop ready!

With the threads the fit was T-I-G-H-T but the bonus was that it now pivots with the door so when I lie it over it does not hit a thing. And, this thing is sturdy, sturdy. Not gonna work for general storage but for use during stropping will work fine. I'm gonna have to think a bit more on how to store them... Maybe pick up an old school Tie Rack and re-purpose that. ??
Thanks for the replies! Definitely helped me piece together something workable!

The hinge idea is a good one. I am going to look at th logistics of my doors and most likely run with that. Thanks for the tip!

Took the velcro strap from my monster bass guitar cable that keeps them all neat and rolled up, looped it through the clip of the strop, strapped it to my bedroom door knob, and stropped away. Everything in my bathroom is about chest level except the door knob, and I was promptly advised that drilling into the cabinets would be hazardous to my health
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Looks like your DIY solution is workable. I hang my strops in the bathroom, low humidity in Arizona and a good ventilation fan)so I have had no issues with cupping. The top hook is about 6 feet high to keep the strops out of my little boy's reach and the lower hook at about waisthigh for stropping.

Half bath shave cave. No humidity issues. Decorative hook on the windowsill.

I rest my case.
