yeah I am really not hung up using a cartridge for the rare instances where I gotta travel. I view this like you guys do too - it's a great hobby. Thought maybe there was some way around it that I'm missing.

Driving to Austin from Washington would be a little too over the top just for a good shave

That's not "just for a good shave" you get the time for many.

So, when you guys do travel and give up the SE or safety for the cartridge, do you still take soap and brush and such? What's actually in your travel kit?

I travel a lot. I always bring a brush and a can of soap. For quick trips with carry-on only, I bring a Gillette Mach 3. If I can check luggage I bring a straight edge and a strop. Leaving for a few days this coming week. Just sitting here thinking about whether I should check my luggage or not. Decisions, decisions!!!

BTW, it doesn't matter how much I try with the Mach 3. I am scratchier in the afternoon after a Mach 3 than I am on the morning after with a straight edge. Yeah, yeah! My facial hair is not the most impressive, but still.

Yea, a good lather is important for a comfortable shave no matter what razor you are using.
