Thanked: 21st Naniwa 12000 lap & hone
Howdy all,
Well my 1st lapping experience, my Naniwa 12000. The stone was crowned in the middle. I used my DMT 8-C, it worked great. The pencil marks disappeared just like all the vids showed. I ended-up holding the two stones and rubbing them together under water ( small sinks). I honed my DOVE, BEST Q. on it. I watched the water along the edge, like Lynn showed in his DVD. The hair popping want great. I'm going to follow gssixgun video for lapping my Norton 4/8. I hope at goes alright. Again everyone's advice is truely appriciated.

Thanked: 2saitou,
Thanks for the reply. The DMT 8-C is a real good lapping stone. I found I had to lap the Naniwa twice. I didn't use much pressure lapping. I'll find out how good I honed my DOVO when I shave this mourning.

Thanked: 2Hey mumpig,
I sent you a thank you I wonder why it didn't show-up? Anyway if you use the Naniwas for a complete dull to shave ready would you let me know which stones you use?
Thanx, ljhblues

I know you didn't ask me, but I'll answer anyways.
I use only Naniwas, and I hone from 'spoon sharp' to shave ready with a 1k, 5k, 8k, 12k progression.
75% of my time is spent on the 1k if I'm honing from completely dull.
I usually finish with 10 laps on CrOx or Cbn to smooth everything out. Works great!Through the mud and the blood, to the green fields beyond.

Thanked: 2Hey ironsidegnr,
Thank you for the info. I'm thinking on getting the 1k, 5k and 8k as well. Just wondering do you use Lynn's circle honing for setting the bevel?

Absolutely!
I use heavy cicrles on the 1K that progress slowly up to no pressure. Then I end with X-strokes.
I repeat this for the 5 and 8K as well.
At the end of the 8K I still check the edge on my leg hair to make sure it pops from heel to toe. If not, this is where I do touch ups.
Then on the 12K it's just x-strokes.
I do around 30 with just t tiny bit of pressure, then another 30-40 with NO pressure to finish.
After that, finish the blade off however you like.
I use a Crox pasted balsa strop or CBN linen depending on my mood.Through the mud and the blood, to the green fields beyond.
