Default 250 to spend on a razor

I got a razor for Christmas that I am not thrilled about so I am going to return it and get something different. I need some suggestions on what to buy. I have two new Dovos, a best quality and a Bismark. I love both, but I also have some vintage stuff that have a heavier grind that I like a lot. Since I already have the hollow ground I was thinking of maybe something a little heavier. I have a couple of Sheiffield Fredrick Reynolds that are awesome shavers. I don't mind going new or restored. Anyone have any suggestions?

Its about $25 more than you listed as your budget but may I suggest a Hart razor?

25 is not a deal breaker. I have heard good things about the Harts. Im not as keen on the aesthetics as I am on some of the Dovos and Tis though. Any particular ones you have in mind?

Not really, since Harts all look pretty similar. The real difference is what you choose for scales. I have one with rosewood. I think there may be some heavy grind vintage blades in the classifieds here. I keep my eyes open for heavier grinds as I like them more than hollow.

I'll second the recommendation for a Hart. Given your other razors, maybe a 7/8 and whatever scales and finish appeal to you.

I was looking at SRD and Vintageblades and could not find but a few. Do you know of any other reputable places to buy them?

Vintageblades has a few of them. I planned on getting a Hart Steel one, but for all their carbon steel razors are $250+. Which Dovo's have for $150 and much sexy looking!

Thiers Issard's are good choices... if you like French stuff!

    For Hart Steel:

Certainly you could go to the source: http://www.hartsteel.com/index.html.

I ordered mine from there and they shipped promptly.

Just got a hart and just had my first shave with it 10 minutes ago. Really liked it. Better shave and less irritation than my dovo. Since both came from reputable "shave ready" sources, I think the heavy blade and grind somehow accommodated my lack of good technique better. End result was roughly the same in terms of shave, but with less irritation and no blood.
