From what I've read, Hart razors are finished on Vintage Escher's. That would explain the comfortable, irritation free shave.

Your shaving technique, and the finishing hone or paste explains irritation or lack of.

I have heard nothing but good about Hart razors but I can't get past the aesthetics of them myself. I would suggest that you also look at the Revisor site Rasiermesser in both their new production and rarities sections. Pretty hard not to find something that will appeal to you.

Why not get a vintage puma? Those heavier ground pumas are wonderful.

I'd keep my eye out for a nicely restored old Sheffield blade. I personally think many of the new production razors, including Hart, do not have the greatest quality control. For the price, you may not get a crazy 8/8 Barber's Use but I don't think you'll go wrong either way

When I say nicely restored, I don't mean one of those buffed to death things that are all over eBay.

I just got a Hart about a month ago as a gift. Great razor. I love the heavy grind. I can attest that they are smooth shavers as well. Mine did not come as shave ready as I'd like. I tried to tune it up with some laps on a 8k. But the grind on these requires a little more work than a full hollow. I got some improvement by going to a 4k, then up. I wasn't happy until I reset the bevel and worked it up through a 12k. Even not being finished on an Escher, it's still a smooth ride. Used mine this morning. BBS and no irritation. $250 buys a lot so you have some options to choose from.
