Thanked: 1What should I do?
Ive been using a straight razor for 2 or 3 weeks now and am getting the hang of the shave, or at least not bleeding everywhere. But today while i was shaving it was mediocre i could actually see the blade going over the top of hairs which was a dead give away that i suck at stropping. I have a dinky 2" strop that came with my dovo cmon, i ordered a 3" with a felt to help me out while i learn to strop. So to my question should i send my blade back to have it rehoned or attempt to get it sharp again on my own? i bought it from classicedge.ca

There are members here who hone for a fee, look them up in the classified section, or let us know where your at. (not listed in your profile). Maybe someone close can assist you.

Thanked: 1184If you messed it up with your strop then you may be able to bring it back with your strop. I have only been at this for a few months myself but the strop ( I have learned ) can be your friend or your enemy. You have watched Lynn's vid on stropping ? I cut my first strop in half almost trying to go for it and I had thought that I needed to bear down on it some. The total opposite is true. Light strokes and 100 or more of them. Did you get a linen strap with the strop ? I was told to do 25 laps on linen and then 75 laps on the leather after I got mine back from hone job. I do 25 and maybe 90 or a hundred and treat it like if I go to fast or hard it will catch fire.
It must have been shave ready when you got it if you bled that much after the second day. They are sold shave ready but really aren't that good unless you by it from someone that actually hones.
The fellas above me know a lot more than I do . I am just thinking if you can improve your edge a little than you learn something. If you get it back honed and do the same thing , then what ? I have been wrong before and may get slapped for offering my 2 cents but, there it is.Last edited by 10Pups; 01-04-2013 at 05:29 AM.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
