Default Remedies for Straight Razor cuts?

Hey whats going on everyone. Well I just shaved for the first time ever with my new Dovo and I must say its wasnt too bad, but obtaining the proper angle was tricky. Anyhow, I managed to obtain a few cuts, which I take is common for a newbie with a straight razor. Do anyone use neosporin or bacitracin over the wounds over night to promote healing? And its it proper to use the left hand when shaving the left side of face or does it matter?

    Thanks much, Respectfully,

    Joshua

    Yes to both questions.

Agreed yes to both...unless you are allergic to neosporin (which is more common than many think). If allergies exist you may heal faster without.

The body is pretty good at healing all by itself as long as the cut is clean and left alone.

    Ubiquitous: YMMV

While it is common for a newbie to get a few cuts, it's important to know why so you can get less cuts.
In my opinion most newbie cuts come from too heavy a touch. If you use very light contact with the razor to your face, you'll find the perfect angle without cuts.
I think most new sr shavers do not realize how light of touch you can use to get a decent shave
    Have fun and be gentle

Don't resign yourself to cuts, even as a noob. Less than close shaves, irritation, clumsy hands, yes to all of this. But cuts are not a given even starting out. Pay careful attention to proper blade angle. It's very rare, but I nick (not cut) myself more now than I did starting out. It's because of a momentary lack of attention or shortcut shaving technique. Cuts are dangerous with a straight razor and entirely avoidable. There's a thread here somewhere with the "cut of the day". Makes me cringe to look at it.

Last nite was about my 26th shave. My last few shaves have been great - bbs and slight nicks but no razor burn. Yesterday however I nicked the hell outta my mouth area- chin and upper lip. Is there such thing as a blade being too sharp? I think my angle and pressure are good. Don't wanna hijack the post but since we're on cuts. I can't figure out why this happened. Any thoughts?

A dull blade is always more dangerous than a sharp blade. I'm guessing your nick happened because of improper skin stretching. The skin ahead of the blade was pushed up and cut instead of stretched flat.

Thanks Mike, that sounds reasonable enough. I know I don't stretch well there. Gotta get a better hold on my skin there!

I decided to send my razor in for some professional honing. I appreciate all the assistance.
