Thread: Sideways on the neck?

Thanks to all - I'm glad I was not imagining that this is a challenging area to shave!

I have the same problem and find as others have said that a scything motion works really well. Just keep the razor horizontal at all times and move in a diagonal direction. I tend to do 3 passes, NW-SE, NE-SW and SE-NW (my hair grows W-E) personally i find this works to get very close to BBS on my neck. But if you do this proceed with caution. Move slightly too horizontal and the nice white creamy lather takes on a more pinky shade...

I'm in the same boat. What I have found to work for me is a little different than what most people suggest.

I stretch the skin sideways, pulling from the root side. It's hard to explain, but I can make the hairs stand up this way. Once they stand up, I can get them with S to N strokes.

For some reason I've never thought about stretching to the side... Might have to give this a go tomorrow

Ross,the old Barbers manuals called it a sawing Motion,In short it is a Downward stroke coupled with a slicing motion,Is all about Timeing.
It truley adds to the closeness of a shave,BUT,I would not recomend it for some just starting out.Practice it with a butter knife,than down the road you may want to give it a try.

sounds rather...errm... dangerous? haha! thanks, and i'll take the advice; save it for another day!

Tried the pulling-the-skin-to-the-side trick this morning. Worked great! I didn't feel like I was really doing anything, until I made one XTG pass (north to south) and wow! Great trick for me.
