    Default Sideways on the neck?

Standard apology if there is already a thread on this - I couldn't find any. Been shaving for about three months with great success. Long way to go, but it's better nearly every day. Problem: the direction of my hair is sideways on my neck where my jaw meets the neck. No matter how far back I tip my head, I can't create a flat surface to shave, and even if I could, I really can't figure out the razor hold and motion I would be using to go ATG there anyway. Does anyone have advice, or a link to a video where someone successfully does this? Many thanks!

Hi medicineball, I too have a sideways growth pattern all over my neck. I stretch and pull the skin as much as possible to try and create a flat surface to shave, but it always seems to be my biggest problem area. I feel like a contortionist trying to get some areas. I would love to hear a more senior member weigh in here, because all of the videos I've seen are of guys who have, shall we say, "round" faces. (no offense guys). It seems to be easy for them, but my face is much different. My Adams apple is difficult, as well as underneath the jaw line. Any ideas?

    I've given up.

There are some areas on my neck where the only way I can get them BBS is with a kamisori and that's because of it's size I can get a sideways stroke in there.

Really, though it used to bother me I don't worry about it anymore. If a few neck spots have a tad of stubble no real issue to me. I'm still getting a great shave in those area BBS or not.

No sideways motion. Hold the razor edge upwards with the shank between index finger and thumb. Scales are held in the palm of the hand. It is similar to how you hold a toothbrush. Blade and scales in line with each other.

Shave upward in a long slow sweeping stroke.

I have found the neck area to see the most difficult part to learn. What works for me today is this: I turn my chin to the extreme right thereby allowing me to shave the left part of my neck. I do the same thing for the opposite side, turning my chin all the way left to expose the right side of my neck. This process give me a pretty good results.

I posted on this a few years ago and it seems to come up once in a while. Truth be told, I haven't solved the problem. With extreme skin tightening, I can do an OK XTG pass, and a bit of scything helps on the sides of the throat, but stubble can still be felt, even if it looks good. A short kamisori gets in there sort of, but is tricky to manipulate in that position.

My answer to the problem is a little unsatisfying: Use a DE or cartridge razor to get the ATG pass. It's easy and requires no contortionist feats. They lack the non-disposable juju of the straights, but they seem to be superior tools for that particular task.

Use a scything stroke on your neck area,no matter what the growth patterns are, thats the cure.

It makes no differance, your cutting the whisker at the very root at or just below skin level.

    Default Sideways on the neck?

The only straight that I feel confident using with all those Fancy moves on My neck is the Feather with a Proguard Blade. Aside from the sharpness I do think that the Size really makes the difference.
