Thanked: 0Love my time with my straights!
Been at it only a couple of weeks now, but I am truly hooked. I don't have time to shave with a straight every day, so when I do get time, I make it enjoyable. With the scents and the way my face feels afterwards, I don't understand why this EVER went out of style!
I'm trying to be patient, but I really want to learn how to hone a razor. I'm sure I will enjoy that end of things as much as the shaving itself. Thanks, Lynn, and everyone else involved with this site for making it such a civil and welcoming slice of the interwebs!
I look forward to learning from those of you who already know the ropes.

My time with Straights is priceless. Focussing on the shave and blocking out everything else is the best. In the end getting a good smooth shave is what I focus on. I can forget about everything else for awhile! Nobody in my household invades my space while I have a straight in my hand. They know better.

I love shaving now, it was more of a chore when I used a Fusion razor. I now look forward to shaving, some quiet time.

Welcome to SRP. Shaving was also something that I considered a PITA that had to be done before I found this forum and the pleasures of straight razor shaving. IME, as time goes on and technique improves, the time it takes to shave with a straight, becomes less and less. Say that to say that the day may come when you can shave with a straight on days where you previously had to resort to a DE for time constraints.
Honing is, IME, a mixed bag of joy and frustration. Sort of like the intro to the old TV show 'Wide World of Sports' ..... "The thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat." Like shaving with a straight razor , honing becomes more often victory than defeat as time goes on. Enjoy the journey.

Honing is my other space. When I need time in the man cave, honing puts me there. I'm still a beginner, but I've been able to put a shaving edge on everything I've attempted, given enough time, space and effort. There are a lot of things to be mindful of and it all has to come together in order to be able to shave. It can go either way on any given day.

Thanked: 270Your post is deja vu all over again to me. I couldn't have expressed my plunge into the world of straight shaving any better. You are sure to succeed because you are enjoying the journey.
I leaned on the unsuspecting suckers that run this forum very heavily for advice, picked up the information I needed, and enjoy every shave. It only gets better.
+1 on learning how to hone your own razors, that is the way to go. I made the decision early on that if I wanted to straight shave I had to learn to maintain my blade. My favorite means of honing is with Shapton stones, but by no means is that the only way to get the job done. Once the razor is shave ready, you just need to refresh the edge a little periodically to maintain your edge. Ask around and decide what you want to use.
People outside the friendly confines of the forum think I'm nuts for shaving in this manner, but in reality they're the nuts for putting up with the expense and discomfort of the modern ways of shaving.
Welcome aboard!
