Thanked: 21Coconut oil works pretty well and is easily found, not only does it lubricate well its also very good for the skin. And it smells great especially when followed with a Rum or coconut shave soap

Thanked: 33I use Village Barber oil and AS. The skin feels much better after I use oil, only problem with this is that Village Barber is expensive. I will look at cheaper alternatives after I finish what I have now.

My next preshave oil be by homemade. Edens garden sells essential oils. They sell some carrier oils that I will buy (probably grape seed) and then I'll probably try mixing it with some Sandlewood essentail oil and maybe something else. But doing it that way I think they sell pretty decent essential oils at a fair price and for about the same amount as buying a premade bottle you with have 5x times as mush is any scents and benefits the oils give you.
If you don't understand my thought process, please read my mind and It will all make perfect sense and should be enlightening for the both of us.

I second coconut oil. You can make it yourself very easily. I used straight up olive oil for a while and got great results. It is good for your skin too.

I don't like oils but I absolutely love my Proraso PRe/post shave cream. It's the most effective preshave I have ever used, and I have used a lot. It just helps you wipe the whiskers away, it seems magical even. Leave it on for two minutes, then lather over it and the results are great. I love Proraso products.
I've used coconut oil from the jar as a Post shave balm and it is great for the skin.

Hey, if you're in Ontario, check out your local shoppers drug mart. I picked up a bottle of Cromwell & Cruthers shave oil for about $3. I use it before I apply my Proraso. It also makes a great aftershave as well! I actually prefer it after my shave as I find it hydrates better than the Proraso pre shave cream. For that price you can't really go wrong though, especially when you can use it before, during and after your shave lol.

I mix 1 part castor oil to 2 parts olive oil to 3 parts massage oil. Works great and smells great too.
What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

Thanked: 1Once you have decided to use a pre-shave oil how is it best used? Put on dry skin or wet? I followed Geofatboy on youtube and he applies lather with a brush for (it seems to me) a long time before he starts shaving. Is it easily brushed off the skin while applying lather from a brush? Does it remain from the pre-shave application for a 3 passe shave? I know nothing about it.
