Face burning all day after using after shave
Hey guys, I've only been straight shaving for approximately a week now, I think I'm on shave #10, and after I shave I've been using Nevia Classic cream. However, yesterday I decided to try some Old Spice Classic aftershave. I bought it in the late afternoon yesterday and put some on just for the scent and to see if it irritated my skin--I have sensitive skin. It was smelled great and didn't bother my skin at all. So, this morning after I shaved I did not have any irritation or razor burn that I could see, I cooled my face off with cold water and then applied the Old Spice aftershave. It really stung for a few seconds after I put it on. But all day today there has been a slight stinging sensation on my face. Later on, I felt like my skin was dried out a little so I put some lotion on and I felt the stinging again. But I still don't see any sign of razor burn. Would aftershave do that? If not, does anyone have any idea what would cause this?

You may have small patches of razor burn. I am only guessing here but the fact that the lotion also irritated your skin may indicate slight razor burn or even tiny cuts. Did the lotion have Aloe? I have noticed that aloe causes some burning and in my case of using lots of aloe cuts begin to bleed again!
Look in the mirror and see if you can isolate the areas that burn and see if the skin appears irritated. If need be reapply the lotion to find the "hot spots" and to determine if it is the AS or the shave.
If it is the AS you may want to stick with alcohol free AS or make your own.
Best regardsI shave because I want to, not because I have to!

That's probably your best bet, especially with sensitive skin. I use PGS Whisky AS which is alcohol free and leaves my face feeling clean and refreshed after a nice shave.

Remember always to moisturize. Aftershave can dry out the skin without a moisturizer due to the alcohol (especially AS like Old spice, aqua velva and clubman). that stinging sensation is your skin calling you a jack#%. (skin has a real language problem) and begging to get the moisture replaced that it's lost.

This can be a technique issue or your skin is sensitive. When I shave with a straight and apply aftershave it only burns for 10 seconds or so and then it is like it never happened. You may be using too much pressure, or have a problem with the edge.
If it's your skin then use Pure Witch Hazel without alcohol. Alcohol is actually VERY BAD for the skin and dries you out anyway...

What you can do to see if its the as take a day and don't shave. Apply the as like you had shaved and go about your day. If it stings you know it's the as.
I know you did this on a micro scale but you might need a larger amount to have the reaction.
I would recommend doing on a day when your just around the house so if its bad you can jump in the shower to wash off.

Thanked: 1184I had a friend that told me he had this problem. I honed his razor and stropped the heck out of it. Problem solved. It could be any number of things like stated above . You just have to isolate by omitting 1 thing at a time. Start with a healed face and go minimum.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
