    While I do use creams on occasion, I'm ultimately a soap guy. I find, with a straight, the soap provides better feedback and gives a closer shave. Just my experience.

    I think it's a personal choice... there are subtle pros/cons to both. The fun is experimenting and finding what works best for you... so relax and enjoy the journey.

    Personally, I tend to stick with good quality (but inexpensive) products. I don't care much about the scent thing... I like to use Bay Rum after most every shave for it's astringent/medicinal properties and the BR obliterates the scent of whatever lather I used. And when I'm going to use a cologne (instead of the BR) the stronger scented lathers often distort the cologne's scent. So I pretty much stick to Williams, Proraso, etc. for everyday use. But then again, I sometimes use a sandlewood scented soap I make myself... just for something different.
