Better your thumb than your nose. My worst cuts have been when I've bumped the blade with my fingers or thumb during a moment of distraction. Not a good thing to have the wife and two kids running in and out of the bathroom trying to talk to you when you're holding the sharpest blade you'll ever handle against your throat.
