William,
I am quite fond of the Thater brushes. They are well made with good backbone and tips as soft as the first kiss.
Through the years I have owned Thater brushes in 22 mm, 23 mm, 24 mm and 26mm, all of which I no longer have. My current Thater brushes are the 4125/3, in 28 mm knot, and 4125/4, in 30 mm knot. Both are delicious. The difference in size is noticeable, but both perform equally well. I believe both have a 55 mm loft. Since I mostly face lather, these are perfect, especially since these days I prefer the bigger brushes.
For face lathering, I suggest a loft anywhere from about 45 to 55 mm. Since you are accustomed to the smaller brushes, the 28 and the 30 might be too large for you. If I may suggest, go with the Thater 4125/2, which is in 26 mm knot with the loft somewhere between 50 mm and 55 mm.
Good stuff Thater brushes.

Larger brushes hold more lather...this is not necessarily a good thing, IMO, as they require more product to make a good lather. I have a 24mm and find it too big and downsized to a 20mm. It's personal preference is all.

Usually with most brushes as you go to higher loft they are more expensive and have a thicker fill also. So, the overall brush is more massive. I used to have some 30mm brushes but these days prefer 26 or so. You can have too much of a good thing.

Thanked: 1195Thater is also famous for making their brushes slightly larger than they advertise, or at least they used to. My SRP 2011 LE is supposed to be 26mm, but it's closer to 28mm. Keep that in mind if you are ordering a larger brush.
