Hirlau's on.....now that was funny....

So I've had three shaves with the Vulfix 404 Grosvenor Mixed Badger/Bristle Shaving Brush and I'm very pleased. In terms of "scritchyness" it's the best I've tried so far, lot's of backbone, the handle has the right size and heft to it, and it felt really good on the face.

With a hard puck, it doesn't load as well as a pure badger, I've found I've had to reload the brush for a good second pass, but that could be due to inexperience with the brush, because it certainly digs in well on the puck.

With the T&H cream, no problem, loads very easily.

One nice thing I noticed about this brush is it wasn't prone to excessive dripping, and for me, as the boars tend to do, a little to much water, and it would slop onto your chest or the sink area.

I've been letting the brush sit in some very hot water for ten minutes before each shave, still going to take awhile to work in as normal, but for me, this brush actually has delivered a great mix of both worlds, and for the price, I'm glad I gave it a try, it's a keeper.

Some like them and some don't. Either way, it is a great handle and well priced. When I bought mine I figured that if I didn't like the mixed knot, I could always get a silver tip one put in but I like the knot just fine.

I have the same problem lately with some Frank Shaving badger knots
This make me very nervous that's why i reknot many of them.

I have one mixed knot and I like it. It's the Semogue 2012 SE, which is a mix of Semogue's highest grade of boar and its Finest badger. The brush has good backbone and scrub, with a slight amount of scritch. I normally don't care for scritch, and all my badgers are two- bands with no scritch. However, the slight scritch on this brush is fine for me.

I think many mixed knots may use pure badger hair, which explains the scritch many find unacceptable. To me, it seems that Semogue has improved the mixed knot by using a higher grade of badger.

It's at 24mm but although the loft is short there is not good backbone,even as "adequate" can't be characterized.
I will post some photos from the test soon.

While back RazoRock came out with a limited production mixed knot, "Amici" made by Semogue. Nice brush. Worth seeking one out

I'm late to this thread but I have to second what was said here. I have the Semogue 2013 Mistura and I am pleased with it every time I use it. Unlike Obie, I like just a hint of scritch and this one delivers it, but it also produces lather as well as my "higher end" badgers. This is a task that occasionally does not work as well for me with some of my boar brushes.



I like this brush a lot.

Now, I also had (slightly have) a Vulvix Grosvenor that I loaned to a friend over a year ago. I have not asked for it back and probably never will. In my hands it worked like a drug store badger brush costing a third of its price. That is, not well.
