Mixed Badger and Boar Brushes
So in my further descent into anything shaving related whoredom, I've now discovered that there are mixed Boar and Badger brushes?
So I have the Vulfix 404 Grosvenor Mixed Badger/Boar Shaving Brush and the Omega 11047 - "Mixed Midget" - Badger/Boar Shaving Brush on the way.
Could these up the "scritchy" factor...can any members share some experience on these mixed boar / badger brushes?
Thanks!

They have always had these type brushes. In theory they should give you the qualities of both however in my opinion (and from what I have seen from others) they just combine the worst qualities of both.

I tried a cheap modern one and it did a wondrous job on my sink after I didn't like its face scritching quality. I think they must use black badger. The dye jobs are neat though!
That said, they have been available and the older ones I have are not any better.

I have tested 3 mixed badger knots from Frank Shaving
Didn't worth all of them, just crappy knots.
I also have 2 other mixed badger knots,an Artamis and another one which i can't remember, maybe it's Virginia Sheng
Nothing special but they are not bad,of course can not compared to any Boar.
I use them from time to time for my saturday shaving.
By the way they needed a lot of de-funk work, more than a Boar and the smell was like a wet cloth abandoned in a dark room.

Gentlemen,
I have used several of these brushes and hated every one, the last in the disappointing lineup Semogue. OY! A brush with the least bit of "scritch" turns me off, and all of these brushes were scratchy. The theory is to provide the best of the two worlds, boar and badger, but in my experience, it was the worst of the two worlds. I know some gentlemen really like them. I think I'll stick with my silvertips with angels dancing on the tips.

Thanked: 0I'm going to differ, though my experience is limited. I have a Razorock Amici mixed brush. I really like it. It has good backbone, and whips up a mean lather. I do like a little scritch and scrub though. My favorite brush overall is currently a DO1 2-band.

It is really a personal preference thing. I have two mixed brushes (the 404 and a Semogue limited edition) and I regularly use both. I do tend towards boar brushes usually so the extra backbone and a bit of scritch isn't an issue for me. I like the variety provided by boar, different badger grades and different handles.

Thanked: 2027What most do not understand, boar and horse,is not hair,it is solid material,it cannot absorb water and retain heat like Badger Silvertip which is hollow.
