My reply must have been incomplete, or either you didn't read it thoroughly, but you can buy completely assembled badger brushes directly from China. He does not have to turn, drill or glue anything himself. And he can buy only one (1).
And I'll state again that for the same knot size/quality, the Whipped Dog brushes cannot be cheaper. Economically this would simply not make sense.

Thanked: 2284Good luck returning anything from Aliexpress if you get stuck with a defect. Pay a little more and get some customer service. I would stick with a reputable dealer.

Actually, it is just FUD. Alibaba offers the same buyer protection as eBay. In fact, that is a lot more than you would get if you ordered from a private individual outside your own jurisdiction.
No problems here, either.

Your comments on hart razors and I quote :
"I have tried three Hart razors. First impression when handling them was, "are they bloody joking?" The scales were laughable. The weight of the razors was disheartening. The shaves were mediocre, at best.
A few minutes of quality time with a hone later, they actually shaved. And that was that.
The Murrica factor aside, these razors cannot compete with entry level Solingen razors. Yet they cost three or more times as much. Reason for buying? Murrica. Nothing more, nothing less."
In my world thats pretty close to bashing this company. But i do understand that in your world anything thats not Solingen/German based is garbage.

Martin, thanks to Robin's recommendations, I have discovered excellent products I wouldn't have normally tried, from various parts of the world, including the United States!
While I may not always agree with Robin, I do not have his princess-and-the pea-like sensitive skin nor do I care for Ass milk in my shaving soap, I have always found him to be quite objective.
With respect to straight razors, I am partial to Solingen razors, only because the best specimens I have encountered happen to have been made there. There are always exceptions of course, *namely CNC made dovo 5/8's, Modern G&F razors, Gold Dachs razors etc.. even Robin would agree.

I have used nothing but Semogue badger brushes for several years, and I have owned some of the best, including a Plisson HMW. I use a less-dense knot because I found that it releases lather better than an extremely dense knot.

Why was this thread resurrected after 10 months of silence?
Maybe I missed the part of this thread where RobinK said anything about Hart steel razors?
Some threads should just be closed and left to fade away into the depths of the archive. This thread has run its course.

Originally the OP asked for advice on what to buy and he got more than he bargained for in this thread.
I'm closing it.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
