I have never heard of anybody catching anything from a used brush. Lots of " OH, I would never, that's gross comments" but really, The thing lived most of it's life in soap. A little cleaning should be all it needs.
Then there is the option of putting in a new knot.Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
