    Default Question on used brushes

Got my eye on a couple of used brushes. How do you disinfect these before using. Dont want any possible skin disorder jumpin on my mug. Or worse!

Many opinions on this. Some guys say a washing in an antibacterial soap does the trick...probably works as well as anything. I have soaked a used brush in a Barbicide solution for about 10 minutes with no ill effects. I see no reason why a good soak, agitation, and rinse in a quality antibacterial soap (like Dial or Lysol) would not be all that is necessary.

I have never heard of anybody catching anything from a used brush. Lots of " OH, I would never, that's gross comments" but really, The thing lived most of it's life in soap. A little cleaning should be all it needs.

Then there is the option of putting in a new knot.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Yea. soap is soap. When I was in basic training 1969 it was an open bay barracks and the shower had 5-6 shower heads. we would us a bar of soap until it was gone and then use another until it was gone. same thing with the shaving soap. soap is soap. It's used to shave or get clean. it cleans us clothes dishes ect. Of course that's just one mans opinion.

I have bought and use several vintage brushes, soak in hot water and palm lather with a dollop of shampoo until the lather remains white.

Soak in a 50 percent white vinegar and warm water for 15-20 mins, rinse in warm water and shampoo again to remove the vinegar and any soap that has come loose with the vinegar.

Dry well by tamping on a towel or micro fiber and flagging on the edge of your palm covered with a towel or micro fiber till dry.

Hang in a brush holder, handle up.

I like that you mentioned the water/vinager. That was going to be another question. Have used it to remove hard water deposits from boat carpets before. But carpet is synthetic. Badger isn't. THANKS
