Scuttle use
What is the exact way to use one of these large scuttles?? Fill mug and boiler for 5 minutes and then empty refill boiler. Do you fill the boiler to the top of the pour spout so there is water for the brush?? Or do you just rest the brush in the spout during the shave and use sink water to wet the brush. I am interested to hear how other people approach it. Also without thinking I bought the largest version from Oskar and only have a 23mm brush. I am thinking this could be a problem??

Thanked: 11Hi Matt,
yes, you fill the boiler to the top, which leaves water in the "side-car", as someone called it. This spout (I call it badge basin) is not meant to rest the badger in. You keep the badger in the "mug" part, it would simply not stay in the badger basin because of the weight of the handle. And no, you don't have to wet the brush with sink water any more. You can actually leave the bathroom and shave elsewhere.
But you'll soon find out anyway.
Greetings,
oskar

Brush size
Oskar,
Thanks for the info. Do you think the fact that the brush I am using will affect the scuttles performance?? Should I use a larger brush instead of the 22mm brush.

Thanked: 11To be honest I know next to nothing about brushes and sizes. I've been using a rather cheap one for ages and am happy with it, I don't even know its size.
I think you'll be fine with any brush size. Sorry I can't be more specific.
Greetings,

I was just thinking that perhaps the brush would be to small and not trap the heat well like a bigger brush that fit the mug better. I will soon find out.

Thanked: 3I have a question for people who have used this scuttle. It's pretty much what I'm looking for (holds the soap, provides a vessel to hold hot water to keep lather warm, place to lather). Even though it includes a place to lather, I would like to know how well it holds the heat. I thought the moss scuttle was small so it could just fit the brush and lather, that way the heat doesn't escape and cool it too fast. If that's the case, wouldn't these cool too quickly? Or do they seem to hold their heat in all right?
Also, what's the difference between L, LO, and LK? Just the style?Last edited by Berticus; 07-26-2007 at 02:44 PM.

Think of the Moss Scuttle as a piece of cast iron. It is a heavy piece of pottery, and holds the heat very well.

They hold the heat very well and the larger size for me is better than my large moss scuttle. I would like the "sidecar to be deeper and a larger diameter so I could get my brush in better though. It still is a first rate scuttle and worth every penny.

Thanked: 0Stop Already!
OK, I want one! Enough!
I really like the look of the new handles too, very cool - but the shipping is still prohibitive! Nuts! Dam AD...
