Oh.. The water in any hair brush can cause the hair to swell. The fattening hairs can overwhelm the slowly shrinking plastic of the brush handle. Unless the plastic is really thick it will happen over time, even without the water freezing...then even Badger may swell and burst the ferrule( End of brush handle.) Badger doesn't swell, they are quills, so I understand.)
All of my usual boar brushes are splitting due to the swelling. But I love boar brushes for my soaps and face. I finally got a brush holder and that helps my newest boar brush.
