Thanked: 5Thater fan or bulb?
Hi:
I have a Thater 4125/ 2 band bulb size 26 knot. Really like the brush! I would like to buy another Thater brush and was thinking of a 24 size knot as I tried the 22 and I thought it was to small. The question is can anyone tell me the difference between the bulb and the fan. I know this is a subjective question but any input would be appreciated. BTW I face lather. Many thanks,

I have both. 4125/5 fan and 4125/4 bulb.
The major difference is the working area on face.
Bulb is smaller.
Lather abilities are the same.

I also have both. I like both, but prefer a fan. With Thater the backbone is so strong that one will preform as well as the other.

I have the Thater fan 4125/2 finest silvertip two band 26mm knot 50mm loft, I prefer the look of a fan knot I have no problem with performance differences just can't find any love for a bulb shape in a similar way I just coudn't own a round nose only square points those round nose razors just look so wrong to me.

Thanked: 60For Thaters I prefer the bulb. Feels smaller on the face and is excellent when using painting strokes

Thanked: 5If the fan takes up more face should I down size, meaning if I want a 24 size knot should I buy a 22 or stay the size? Many thanks,

Yeah but if you don't have the proper utensil a round point is perfect for buttering toast or spreading peanut butter !
I have a 26 and a 24 fan (knot size) I don't find them too large on the face. I also have smaller/larger. It is a matter of getting used to them. I just prefer a shorter loft. 48 to 52mm. I have a couple of brushes with taller lofts, but not being a cream user the shorter work better for me. Since you haven't got a fan, give it a try. If you're worried that a 26 will be too large, stick with a 24. For me anything larger than a 26mm knot is too much of a good thing. Gentlemen,
I have had Thaters from 22mm to 30mm knots, two and three-band, and loved them all. I wish I had kept them, but that's another story.
Most were in bulb shape. I prefer the bulb over the fan. Yet, recently I purchased a 24mm three-band in fan shape — and love it. Go figure. The only difference I experience in the bulb and the fan is that the fan seems to splay a wee bit more without effort and, therefore, cover more area on my Hollywood face.
With that in mind, I suggest experiencing one of each, because you can't go wrong with the Thater brush.
