    As for the brush's age, I haven't a clue, but I would guess it i s fairly old. Would love it if someone could give us an idea.

    Right now you have a vintage Rooney brush. You've shampooed and conditioned it. Used it on your face and so far no rashes, or negative consequences. All good. It is a handsome handle, though the knot shows its age. Yet you say it did well in performance as it is.

    So if you get the knot out of there, without damaging the handle, you'll have a vintage Rooney handle with a knot that probably isn't as good as the original, and it won't be a 'vintage Rooney brush' anymore. Just an old Rooney handle with a Chinese knot. IMHO.
