I heard that Lee Sabini, formerly of Rooney, is the maker of the M&F, anything to that ? If I thought their finest 2 band was scritchy I'd get one. Soft tips are alright, but I prefer the scritch.

Jimmy the M&F two band are scritchy the ShaveNook Paladin LE had the M&F two band knot and that's a scritchy knot but the Rooney finest with Heritage hair is definitely not scritchy.

The M&F I posted above is actually with a Heritage knot, not Blonde badger as the handle is labeled. Very soft tips.

I've never owned one but have used them. Excellent brushes, Rooney too.

Well, the thing is with Lee's knots is that they can be very inconsistent. Some can be very scratchy (even scratchy!) and some can be downright silky smooth with no scratch whatsoever. It's luck of the draw what you end up getting.

However, I purchased one of the Paladin initial offering brushes when they first came out (not the Shavenook LE one) and it was quite scratchy to begin with. I even felt the scritch on my head when I lathered up to shave it when I first got it! However after a couple of months of use it really settled down and softened significantly. Now, after about 4-5 months of use it has become one of my favorite brushes with no detectable scritch and absolutely stellar backbone. Great flow through too. Definitely one of my top brushes. It would not have become so had it retained any scritch.

Having said that though, I've heard of some knots retaining their level of scritch no matter how much use they get. While a friend of mine here in Vancouver got one that was super soft tipped and scritch free right off the bat. So you "pays your money and takes your chances" is the word.

Oh and Stefan, that is one beautiful M&F brush you have there!

Jimmy, IIRC Lee bought the rights to Rooney , but I may be wrong here.

The old Rooney Finest, made before the Heritage line came out, was scritchy ....... at least on my face it is. Shortly after Lee brought out the Heritage line the finests disappeared and the word was that he couldn't access the hair anymore ...... whatever that was about.

Yes Stefan, Lee was Rooney when the FInest and the Heritage line were produced. I heard he was M&F as well, but I don't know that for a fact.

Jimmy, according to others that have gotten brushes direct, Lee is the man behind M&F brushes. It is a one man operation I believe.
