Disappointed with my Merkur brush
I got a new red Merkur brush a couple of months back, and immediately loved the weight of it and the feel of the bristles. It went into my rotation, and gets used probably twice a week. Last week, it left a couple of bristles on my face and that was the start of its downward spiral!
It is now losing bristles in clumps!!! I take good care of my brushes, cleaning them and properly hanging them to dry. Has anyone else had this issue or did I just get a dud?

Thanked: 38I had a similar experience with a VP Leonhardy 700730 I got from TSS. Lost a hair or two every shave (but with 20000+ thats ok). Then one day I looked in the mirror after face lathering and had a hard time focusing... What the hell's on my face? Clumps of badger hair sticking out. At least 100. Probably 200.
Jared let me upgrade to a 700030. I'm happiest when I'm using that brush.
You got a dud. Shouldn't have any issues getting a replacement.

I have contacted the vendor, but am still waiting for a response. Is this a common issue with this brush or did a truly just get a rare bad one? If this is an issue then I will replace it with a different brush...

They are usually quality brushes. Any brush can be defective or shed no matter the brand. I had a Thater where the knot fell out.
Most brushes will lose a few hairs at first but continual or worsening shedding is a problem. You need to get a replacement. Insist on it.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Thanked: 220I was actually unaware Merkur made brushes, so obviously this hasn't happened to me. If it did though, I would try to return it, maybe it was just built on a Friday.

I suspect they don't actually make them. Someone else probably does it.

The vendor (Col conk) contacted me and asked me to return it. Hopefully I will get the replacement back quickly and it's a good one!

I would think all brands have a clunker from time to time.

I got an email today acknowledging that I got a bad one and my new one was on the way!

Great to hear this one had a happy ending!
Just on a side note. Not accusing you of this or anything because it sounds like the vendor acknowledged that you got a defective brush, but more for general information for those that don't know. Make sure that you don't use extremely hot water with your brushes. My rule of thumb is that any water that is too hot for my skin is too hot for my brushes. If you want really hot lather, use a scuttle and put the boiled water into the scuttle to keep your lather warm but never dump super hot water on a brush. Using freshly boiled water on a brush has been known to cause shedding after a period of time.Last edited by Attila; 11-12-2015 at 11:07 PM.
