Haha - go with the Simpson Polo 8 unless you want a brush the size of a Fire Hydrant.....

Yes, a Polo 8 might be more sensible but there is no fun in that. What do you think, in best or super badger? Is one close to the way the Rooney 3 bands feel?

Super Badger, only way to fly in my opinion.

I grabbed a Chubby 2 in Best Badger from the Classifieds here, and the feel of Super Badger, the density of the knot, backbone and quality compared to the Best is just leagues above in my opinion. The Polo 10 I have is in Super Badger, and I'm sure if I tried, I could empty a jar or bowl of your average soap or cream just loading that puppy up....massive brush, way too big for my liking, although fun to use occasionally.

The Rooney Finest knot is equivalent to Super Badger AFAIK, they certainly feel the same.....

Thanks for the comparisons. If your Rooney has their Finest knot then it is different from my Rooney which has their Super Badger knot. So sometime in the new year I'll scout around for a Polo 8 in super.

Didn't want to create another thread but are Rooney brushes worth it today? I've seen many people complaining about them being shedders.

I have two Rooney's, and neither has shed really at all, at least no more than what I'd consider the norm, a couple of hairs only....at last in my experience.

Mine will loose a hair every now and then but I don't think that is a problem. If a brush looses a lot of hairs every shave I would think that is a real shedding problem. Are the currently available Rooney brushes worth it? I don't know never having had the older versions which used a different knot, from what I have read.

I can say that I face lather and normally prefer a 2 band knot for a little more backbone but this 3 band Rooney surprised me with having a very decent amount of backbone. Overall I really have been enjoying using it.

Wow, you must be lucky. If you google rooney shedding you'll find lots of complains from people. Also, Executive Shaving, a UK vendor has this on their website:

"We no longer sell Rooney Shaving Brushes, this has been the case since early 2010.

Up until that time we enjoyed a good relationship with Rooney but when we MyCompany Quarterly Reported problems with some brushes shedding hairs, Rooney stopped returning our calls and emails.

Executive Shaving had to refund and exchange many brushes leaving us £100s out of pocket. We decided to sell off our remaining Rooney stock with a 50% discount and a warning that some brushes may be 'shedders'.

The owner of Rooney brushes was always very wary about where the brushes were made and by whom. Are they made in England? If so, where?

Today, The Executive Shaving Co Ltd stock high quality shaving brushes such as Simpson, Vulfix and Muhle. We also sell a range of own branded Executive Shaving brushes most of which are made in England by a well known and highly respected manufacturer; while some are lathe turned by a Scottish guy who does specially commissioned work for us using imported badger hair heads."
