Brushes Behaving Badly
I have an ongoing struggle with my brushes. Currently I have a small pure badger, made in England (probably by a well known maker) for an obscure smaller English maker, that whips up a foam well but sheds so much that I resemble a rabid animal foaming at the mouth. My second pest is an Omega 48, I have heard lots of good things about this brush, but I have yet to work out why; I have tried many times but I cannot get a good lather built with it; using my Tabac soap (a true and trusted friend), I have experimented with bowl and face lathering, more and less water, but all I get is a translucent smear across my face. I am awaiting delivery of a Vie Long 4212 horse hair brush, I am hoping I can get a brush that lathers without the loss, but in the meantime does anyone have any advice as to how I can get my Omega to behave?!!

Look up someone in your area, it's got to be you. It could be lots of things, but if you can't lather Tabac, welllll it's not the soap or the lather and after this much time you need some guidance. Tc

Thanked: 4826You could go for a new knot in your shedding brush, but that is for another thread. There are a few lather building videos on youtube that may be of interest to you. I am kind of with Tc in that the soap you are using is good, the only other variable could be your water. My water is harder than concrete and I can still get Tabac to lather but you may want to give bottled water a try.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Have you contacted the manufacturer of the shedding brush about this issue? A) they should know that one of their product is sub-par B) You may get a replacement that doesn't shed or as much...

Thanked: 433My Omega Boar brushes had a break in period, but seem to work ok afterwards. I do prefer my Omega synthetics more than the Boar brushes and seem to hold lather better

I think I'll demote mine to painting window frames.

If you like the handle re knot it, put something in it that does lather for you. Tc
