I too have the 4125, bulb shape, and find it to be a good brush.

Great test and read that was John! Thanks for documenting your results and test methods so well.

Thäter brushes are known for their soft tips without scritch. The brushes listed on SRP are all two or three band silvertip, although they are listed as finest, and all would have a soft tips without scritch. Thäter does make a brush in best badger, which would be scritchy, although I don't see one listed on SRP. They are listed on Fendrihan, if you wanted to take a look at one.

My Thater 4125/0 fan has no scritch, good backbone, but primarily very soft tips.....smaller handled brush, but certainly a quality brush, and very well priced in my opinion.

I've thought alot about this whole scritchty/prickly issue ... I know, I need a life ... and I've come to the conclusion that scritchy, like beauty, is in the eyes of the beholder.
Or, to put it in perspective, one man's scritch is another man's mop!

Edit ... I received a Shavemac DO-1 Two Band recently. If I chucked this brush in a drill, I could probably clean the old paint off my trailer ... Is it scritchy??? I guess so... but again, I'm really not sure...

Very true that it is entirely subjective. I sold some Rooney Finests, years ago, when I thought 'it' would never end, and they were scritchy on my face. Not so much on the faces of those that bought them.

I will state unequivocally, that the Shavemac D0-1 two band is the Sultan of Scritch ! Best there is !!

Haha....the Sultan of Scritch it is...for me it is the perfect brush, and sets the bar at one end of the brush spectrum; and as a result, allows me to see and enjoy the differences and nuances of the others...love the D01-2.

Going to try a 2 band Silvertip in another vintage handle at some point to go to the other side.

That's what made the original 2 banders so special. They were soft yet had that mild scratch that is so coveted. The only brush I've seen that approximates those now unavailable 2 banders are the Manchurians and they are still far from the others.

I think if you are trying to recapture those now available products you're on a fool's errand.
