Shavemac "Moss brush" variable loft (version2)
Ok i know some of you saw this over on shave my face but for the rest...
here are some pictures of my newest toy. it is a fan shaped, faux horn handled brush. to adjust the loft, short to long (scrubby to velvety) you simply turn the base. for cleaning the brush seperates into the knot and the handle portions
there are about 4 turns form shortest to tallest. below pictures of the bottom, short, medium (2 turns), tall and the brush seperated, in order.
I have only used this once so far... tall for the soaking, short to load it up with Tabac soap, medium for building the lather in my bowl and applying. very pleasurable.Last edited by syslight; 06-26-2007 at 05:53 PM. Reason: forgot last picture

Thanked: 4The only thing against the VLB is that it's a heavy bugger compared to my SMF1. The extra mass of the faux tortoise and internal stainless steel adjusting screw are fairly noticeable. Heavy or not, I won't be parting with my VLB. A very enjoyable brush.

Have you seen any reviews of the bulb shaped version?
I have a Simpson Polo #8 and a Vulfix so IF I were to "need" one of these, I would lean toward the Bulb. I wondered if it is as good. The fan looks like a Simpson Polo when cranked short and a Vulfix when tallest (probably denser though - I would guess). Bottom line, is it worth $200 versus just picking up one of their nice $70 25mm in Finest???

Guess not... i have a shavemac 177 and 429 both bulb style and they are great both have nice density. One issue that i have had with the brush is that twice the screw that holds the turning hadle on has come loose and it was a bit of a task getting it back on tightly without jamming the thing at the lowest setting. the third time i added some "locktight to the threads of the screw and it has not loosed up since.
Still it is a pretty good brush.Be just and fear not.

Thanked: 4I've got the bulb version. Fully retracted it's incredibly dense, and will make an impression on a triple milled soap. Fully extended it seems a little denser for about the same size as the SMF1. I find that I'm alternating between the two on cream, but the VLB rules on the soaps. I 'soap up' fully retracted, then extend to lather up. The amount of extension at that point depends on pure whim. I probably wouldn't have bought the SMF1 if this had come out first. Bernd did an outstanding job with the redesign. Very smooth, robust and easy to take apart for the rare internal cleaning. The original design had problems with the base screw slipping and failing to turn the internal feed screw. The new design has banished those problems.
