I guess that depends on your budget. Simpson makes a great brush, but there's no guarantee that you would enjoy it any more than the less expensive option. Since you haven't ever used a badger brush before I will recommend getting an inexpensive brush first to see if you prefer it over your other options (I only use badger after trying just about every type of brush I could get my hands on). If you do enjoy the badger than there are plenty of options to seek out afterwards and if you tell us what you do and don't like about your first brush we can better guide you in the second.

I am with blzrfn on this one.

There is a lot of hype around certain brushes and in some cases rightly so as they are great brushes. That does not mean that they will suit everyone. The Simpson chubby range is a good example, many people love them because of the dense knot and backbone. Others don't like them for the exact same reasons.

I have a Simpson Duke 3 and a Kent BK 8. Both large knots, both badger but both very different to each other.

I recently went to a shaving store and bought one of their own branded badger brushes for £40 simply because I liked the look of it. I would say that the knot is somewhere between my other two much more expensive brushes. Guess what... It is now my cheapest badger brush by a good way and is now my favourite brush. It doesn't shed any hairs is silver tip and very soft on the face but with sufficient backbone to handle triple milled soap.

I would think it could well have been made by the same people who make the shave.ie brushes. I say go for it, nothing ventured nothing gained and at the end of the day you can always sell both testicles to get there in half the time.

Thanks guys, I'm new to this and appreciate the help. I ended up ordering a silvertip from frank shaves for a bit cheaper. It's a chubby type, right now I can't remember exactly. Looking forward to it arriving. Thanks again everyone ! Kieran

My brush arrived this morning. A 24 mm knot with 50 mm loft. I am very happy with it thus far, shed one hair, it's dense with plenty of backbone. It seems to hold a lot of lather in the bristles which will take getting used to compared to my boar and I must say is so much softer. All in all I'm well pleased. Thanks guys.
