    Just tossing out my thoughts and have never had one of these and cannot find quickly what the material of the handle is.

    It could be a cold shut in the molding of the handle rearing its ugly head.

    You may want to consider, at least, salvaging the knot as I am sure you can either send it to a brush artisan to turn you another handle and set this knot into it, or order a handle off of ebay or etsy and set the knot into it, yourself.

    Other alternative is to email Mark I believe at Simpson and ask him about putting the knot into a new handle, he's done it for customers before and might be cheaper than just buying a new one.....

    Oh ..this knot is going into an Elk Horn handle that Glen Sixxgun made for me years ago....the handle is pissah ....the GN knot....no so much.

    Simpson did have a batch of bad handle material, but it was quite some time ago if I recall correctly. It may be old stock from that era that you purchased 5 years ago.

    Drop Simpson a line, I would be very surprised if they did not make it right. That should NOT happen.
