Thread: shavemac

I've been using the vulvix superbadger for a while and it has been alright but I'm thinking I want to try something with some more backbone. The shavemac has come up several times in discussion and I was wondering if I absolutely needed the silverback. I like my superbadger but if I'm looking for something with more exfoliation and backbone. Any thoughts?

I would definately recommend the Savile Row. Its a great brush and rumored to be made by the same people doing shavemac.

I started out with a Vulfix brush that I still use for creams but wanted something a little firmer for soaps.

The next one I bought was a Shavemac 501/Grade 2 "Finest" badger from Vintage Blades, and I like it so much that I haven't even thought about buying more brushes since that time. My guess is that you'd be happy with one of these - in any event I doubt there's a better $70 brush on the market. The combination of soft but firm bristles is perfect for me and I don't think this brush has shed more than three hairs since I started using it.

I can't remember reading any bad reviews of Shavemac brushes. There are other good ones out there for sure but you can hardly go wrong with one of these.

I agree with Dave. The shavemac 501 is a top notch brush with an affordable price tag.

I just picked up a Rooney super silvertip at vintageblades, which you might also want to consider. It's a firmer brush for use with soaps, but the badger hair is as soft to teh touch as you can get. I've only been using it for a week, and can say that between this and the shavemac I'll prob never buy another brush.

This brush has come up a lot when guys recommend Shavemacs. The general consensus is that it is a great one. I have looked at Shavemac for several months and have come to the conclusion that it will be my next brush and that I will order it in a 23-25mm knot in Finest. From what I can tell, it's a great brush at a very reasonable price.
I have a Vulfix Super and a Simpson Best and thought a bulb shaped in finest would round things out nicely. Good Luck!

I have a Shavemac and a Savile Row. I would recommend either one. THey are more densely packed than the Vulfix and will work better than the Vulfix.

You will not be disappointed with either

Where other than QED can you buy the Saville Row brushes?

The one thing that would push me towards the Shavemac is that Saville Row makes a whole lineup of different sized brushes in a handle shape that i love, and i feel i would be forced to buy the whole family of them lol:

I plan on getting a shavemac brush in the near future. I'll grab a tub of tabac soap while i'm at it (they have it at a pretty good price) and on the website it says "No customer should ever pay an extra invoice for shipping or duty except the shipping fee charged with your Shavemac order.
