I find the soap, glycerine and vinegar treatment video interesting but, after using a few brushes over forty years, I've never had to clean one other than with a daily 20-30 second post-shave routine. I flush out soap with fresh water in the shaving cup (cleans the cup, too), rinse, sling the brush over the sink, towel-dry/fluff the bristles and leave it hanging bristles down.

From time to time White vinegar soluble
A good cleaning-rinse after each shaving helps a lot
I follow that rule and all of my brushes (even those cheap from China that i had in the past decades) have No deposits on them.

I have hard water, which I'm changing very shortly. This can make your brush maintenance a little higher. I find it leaves my brush with a fine powder once it has completely dried. I do rinse my brush very well, and have tried different techniques to try and defeat this problem. But it happens every time. Hard water is the devil for a shaving brush.

My recommendation, get a water softener.

I guess the next question is, has anybody with soft water ever had a problem with gunk on their brush???

I am guessing we have soft water and I never recall having to clean a brush.

I've got very hard water and cold water shave most of the time. No trouble with any of my brushes.

I do rotate them though. After I'm done I rinse the brush with hot tap water and gently squeeze (not pull on bristles), then give it a couple really good shakes to rid the remaining water. Then they usually lay horizontal on the shaving mug rest till the next morning when I give them a little fluff up and store before choosing the next one.

I figure the brush is getting covered with soap so that should clean it up and remove any hard water deposits.
