The shelves are great. I think I have just enough tongue and groove cedar on my back porch to build something like that. I have been wondering what to do with it; thanks for the idea!

:):) Your are most welcome....
We do however expect pics upon completion :D
OMG! A newbie here. What I have got myself into??!! :gth
Dan
Mad respect peter...thats a nice collection of brushes....
ok, here's a pic of my "shave den"
pretty self explanatory for the most part. my big redneck strops are on the other side, hooked to a towel holder, that little strop is for stropping between passes. all the little ziploc containers are soap. i remelt all my soap into them, for the most part. not a big fan of the mug, since I use that big redneck scuttle up top. hipflask is my homebrew bayrum. (the DFW guys will remember why it's been written on) razor holders are actually toothbrush stands from target.
eta: before anyone asks, the pliers are for doing my earrings
Just to have a photo of it in this thread, here is my shave den with the current rotation of razors:http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3003/...d261e1e2_b.jpg
The moose has decided it is better to stay here than brave the great outdoors.
Well, after having searched just about every Wal-Mart in the city, I finally went to Anchor Hocking's website to see who else carried their products. For those of us in Canada, the soap (umm...sugar?) bowls are carried by Canadian Tire at $3.99 apiece.
Just want to thank Glen for not only starting this thread, but for walking me through melting the soaps and grating the milled soaps.
Without further ado, here's my very humble shave den (the upshot of all the soap bowls in that now my wife is insisting that I build a shave cabinet for the bathroom! :y

Wow, i'm about 4 months in and that scares me
I'm really starting to regret that I've decided to get into straights. Knowing myself I will need some serious counseling very very soon because this is going to form into something that's going to drive me to bankruptcy...:chop:
At least I'll have a nice BBS shave though when I go to court....
Hmmm.... I see I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but it is too late now. I've seen the future of my bathroom, and it looks very cool. Thanks for the ideas men. Time to make it happen!
I just got this old spoon rack at the Rescue Mission's Thrifty Shopper store for $1. After a little modification, here is how it turned out:
I got this about a week ago. I'm pretty much spread out all over the house, too.

I am liking it !!!! All kinds of new stuff popping up on this thread again...
Dan: that was a great idea on your shelf !!!!
Cliff: man I gotta give you the innovation award for the vise grip strop clamp :bow
I love that little silver clam shell thing you have too
The only thing that worries me is the height at which they're attached and their location near the doorway. I think I need to put the handle on the other side.
Nice layout though. I have taken over several shelves in our bathroom with my stuff. The wife just shakes her head...:chop:
I've just taken a different bathroom - I've ceded the en suite with the proviso that the family bath is all mine to do with as I please...so shave gear EVERYWHERE! Hahahahaha!:y

I have to say, This thread is giving me some ideas... Please post more of Your Den's.
There are so many good ideas here, I am already starting to think about some sort of "compact shave den"
I will post pictures of my shave-cabinet sometime soon, not too fancy yet:)
I can relate, I almost have to meet the mailman before he rings the bell, like a covert op, because if she see's a priority box, I'm dead meat. I too have taken over the bathroom counter, it's like a shave store.
She just shakes her head, God, what if our wives, girlfriends started a forum?
Yes, Pics are good. I need to come up with something, I've been thinking of going to the hobby shop and converting one of their shadow boxes?
Ya know, I look at my sacred shaving area as my StraightRazorPlace!!!!!!
:rofl2:
Have fun,
Lynn
I made one last month from a shadow box. I am going to veneer it in the future to spruce it up a bit. From a previous post…
I have a Thiers Issard magnetic burl display case for my most prized blades, but needed something worthy of the other razors. I was going to make a storage shelf out of some curly white oak I have but I like the glass case. It displays the razors better and keeps them somewhat protected. A long story short, I was at Hobby Lobby and came across some large shadow boxes. The backing looked like hell and would never work for razors. Thin, flimsy foam with a thin wood backing, but it had potential.
So I picked up one of the cases. I removed the junk backing and cut a ½ inch sheet of ply wood to refit the box. I was going to use some crushed purple velvet for a cover. You have to take into account the thickness of the material as it wraps around the board so you need a little clearance but it still needs to fit tight. Measure twice, cut once, off the workshop I go. I ripped the ply down to size on the band saw (you have to make sure to keep your cuts square or your backing will be no good). I used some general purpose spray adhesive on the board and fitted it with the purple velvet working to make sure there are no bubbles or wrinkles in the fabric. Glue the sides around to the back, trim the excess and screw it all together.
For hangers I went with 5/8 inch brass shoulder hooks. I marked the backing off with a grid using string to make sure my lines were straight. I predrilled a pilot for each screw in hanger and screw them in. I got all the hardware store had but need a few more so I will hit another store tomorrow. The door has a magnetic closure and works darn good. While it is not as flashy as my Thiers case, it also cost a fraction as much and holds quite a few more blades. I may get adventurous some day and flush mount a button magnet behind each mount to hold the blade partially open like the Thiers. But for the cost, it will work darn good.

The Melamin containers from Rosti are perfect for grated or melted soaps. Razors are in display case in other room.
Some nice looking new additions there..
Cannon??? those 5/8 in shoulder hooks I cannot seem to lay my hands on at all, can you PM me about where you found them????
Ok, this thread is pure evil. I was just thinking to myself that I need a better way to organize my shaving stuff. Some of these cabs are awesome! Kudos!
I'm still liking the Black Walnut for sure.
Lynn
God Lynn that is just AWESOME !!!!
Thats not a shave den, thats an emporium!
Very respectable Lynn! :nj Where does your wife keep her stuff? ;)
Is that a print of an old Barber chair on the left wall? That's nice.
Love the leg night light - I think it's Italian - it says "fragile!"
What a great movie! Nice accessory to your shave den, Lynn!
